I got involved with Formatt Hitech earlier this year after entering their Fukubukuro giveaway. Lucky me, I was selected and received a fantastic assortment of filters as a result.

I've been using Lee filters for ages, and my current set was definitely showing its age. I needed to find replacements, which led me to check out Formatt Hitech. Being from South Wales, it was awesome to know that they’re based right here, and I even managed to swing by the factory to pick up my Fukubukuro bag.

The quality of these filters is impressive, way better than the Lee resin ones I had. You know, those Lee filters (especially the big stopper) tend to give a blue color cast, which just complicates things in post-production. From what I’ve noticed with the Formatt filters, there’s no significant color cast at all. The Firecrest holder does take a little getting used to, particularly if you’re working with the light-proof curtains. I did have a little incident with a 10-stop filter while using it, but a quick message to the Formatt team sorted it out.

All in all, a fantastic product and great customer support.

I've been using the Firecrest Ultra two and three stop soft grads, mainly with longer telephoto lenses for capturing wildlife in broader landscapes. These grads deliver outstanding sharpness and clarity all the way through, with no noticeable drop in quality even at 400mm.
